  • Recommendations for Rifle Hunting

We would recommend the following calibers for hunting plains game:
    • Minimum- 7x57 or 308
    • Minimum- 7x57 or 308
    • 30-06
    • Any of the 300 calibers
    • 338
    • 375 H&H

Plains game animals in Africa are not easy to put down but if you study your shot placement well and hit them in the right spot, they will go down just like anything else.
Shot distances in the Limpopo range from 60 yards to 200 yards, the thick brush allows us to stalk in closer resulting in a shorter average shooting distances.
The open plains of the Freestate with less vegetation allows for longer shot generally ranging from 150 yards to 300 yards. Most of the plains game species are smaller in the Freestate as well so one might want to think about using lighter faster calibers for example:
    • 270
    • 223
    • 308

Remember to buy good quality ammunition, African animals are expensive and when you factor in the cost of a hunt spending a little more on your ammunition might be worthwhile.
    • Barnes X
    • Federal Premium

  • The rifle hunter’s checklist:

    • Ammunition pouch or belt
